CALL Weekends

A CALL Weekend is, quite simply, a weekend with prayer, activism, speeches, seminars, and fellowship. Each CALL Weekend is designed to be a flash point for the collegiate pro-life movement - a time when college student come together as a community to live out the same vision of the culture of life. This living of the culture of life is ultimately the expression of our desire to liberate our culture from enslavement to sin to the freedom of Christ, who came "that they might have life, and have it to the full," (John 10:10) The CALL Weekend works on many levels to equip collegians to take action in defense of their preborn brothers and sisters and to raise them up as leaders who will put Christ's love into action on their campuses.

The CALL Weekend provides an opportunity for collegians to grow in their faith. Specifically, the events of the weekend provide them with the chance to open up more fully to the Lord Jesus Christ, with the same attitude of St. John the Baptist, who said, "He must increase, I must Decrease." (John 3:30)

Activism: College students are convicted when they are personally confronted with the reality that abortion is the brutal killing of a little child. One of the most powerful ways for this realization to come about is the being on-site at abortion mills. It is convicting to see a woman walk into a mill with a child and leave without one. When one sees pro-aborts jeering and heckling peaceful pro-lifers, one realizes that the pro-aborts' violence is a small manifestation of Satan's intense hatred for the unborn children made in God's image. (Psalm 139) When one stands by as silent, prayerful rescuers are carried away, one begins to grasp the absolute insanity of a society which allows, even promotes, the murder of its children.

The CALL Weekend provides those who have never picketed with an opportunity to be involved in legal activism. The experience of activism with CALL should open collegians up for future activism and child-saving efforts.

Spiritual Activism: The CALL Weekend also acts as a bridge for many individuals. It takes them from a position where their pro-life commitment is largely confined to secular activity, to an understanding that something as evil as child-killing is will to be healed by our frail human efforts. There is a realization that this is a spiritual battle which needs to be fought with spiritual weapons. (Ephesians 6:5-12) It will require a great amount of prayer and sacrifice to love abortion out of existence. Thus, their commitment is focused on spiritual activity first, while maintaining worthy secular activity on behalf of the preborn.

Speeches and Seminars: Individuals participating in a CALL Weekend are equipped mentally by the knowledge, insight, and wisdom of the speakers Students' intellects are fed through the weekend's speeches and are thus prepared for battlegrounds of the classroom, where both peers and professors are enslaved to the lies of the culture of death. Seminars give the collegians the prudence to guide their feet through the course of activism. One of the powerful benefits of the CALL Weekend is the fact that the speakers are available not only to lecture, but to answer questions, enter into discussions, and participate in activism with students.

Community: CALL is a network of college students from a wide geographical area, a wide variety of campuses, and a broad range of experiences fighting the culture of death. The CALL Weekend equips these students by helping them, in their respective regions, form a community that can network together. A network not only provides much needed emotional support and encouragement, but also provides a bases for fellowship and prayer, along with logistical benefits.

Weekend logistics: Most CALL Weekends follow a basic format which can be outlined as follows:

    • Friday Nights: Friday night includes registration of participants and a rally to follow. The rally includes several well-known speakers, and is followed with activism if possible.
    • Saturday Morning: Students are up early to picket and pray at a mill that is killing. They then return to a central location for seminars (on various topics which might include: euthanasia, eugenics, feminism, sidewalk counseling, marriage).
    • Saturday Afternoon: Special night includes a rally and activism after if possible. Activism Saturday night might include a prayer vigil at an abortionist's home.
    • Sunday: Sunday includes worship in the morning at the students' preferred churches. They meet together for brunch and social time before saying good-byes. Another useful thing to do on Sundays is to network and plan regional student activities while students are assembled together.
Each rally begins with Praise and Worship. Prayer is included throughout the day, and it is really wonderful when the students can join in praying the Liturgy of the Hours, the prayer the CALL team prays together every day. The outline above can be changed according to changing needs and opportunity.
